Excellent IP overview for managers and investors
This book offers a comprehensive overview of intellectual property issues, suitable for (among others) high-tech executives, entrepreneurs, and investors in early stage companies (all of which describe me). Its coverage includes trademarks (6 chapters, 70 pages), copyrights (5 chapters, 68 pages), patents (4 chapters, 40 pages), and trade secrets (1 chapter, 18 pages), plus chapters on unfair competition, owning IP created by employees and independent contractors, and conducting internal IP audits. I have experience with software copyrights and biotechnology patents; this book is fairly strong on the former, but only briefly mentions the latter. The material on internal IP audits is rather brief (12 pages) but includes a fairly good audit checklist, and an action plan for protecting a company's IP; also, the first chapter should be required reading for managers, since it points out the many places in a business where valuable IP may be found, department by department. The writing is very clear -- certainly not "obtuse" as one reviewer claimed -- and the book is quite current, with good coverage of the Internet's impact on copyright and other IP issues, and coverage of recent changes in the law such as the Digital Millenium Copyright Act. The book is a high-level overview for managers rather than a lawyer's or practitioner's guide, but it does describe the application process for trademarks, copyrights, and patents, all in reasonable detail. Yet this book is just 250 pages of highly readable text -- not a huge tome -- which I think makes it suitable for managers, early stage investors, or board members, especially in high-tech companies.

Save the money
I found this book very obtuse and thought the author tried to make this subject much more difficult than it really is. Save your money.

Highly Recommended!
In the interests of safety, we'll refrain from quoting this fine book by Deborah E. Bouchoux, a specialist in intellectual property who teamed with AMACOM to create that rarest of volumes: a straightforward book about law that is simple to read (it's a formula she should patent). This comprehensive volume covers the nuts and bolts of U.S. patent and trademark law. It also gives advice on how to protect your intellectual property and avoid infringement, and reports on the latest patent trends in high tech. Of most concern for general business managers, Bouchoux reviews how (and why) to conduct intellectual property audits within your organization. With intellectual property emerging as the new corporate treasure of the knowledge economy, we [...] suggest that research and development managers and executives of every stripe study this volume carefully. Why should your attorney be the only one who understands what you really own?

NP Business Practice and Legal Guide is Excellent !
This book is an excellent and should be required for all advanced practice nursing curriculum for NPs. I went to school in a different state and then returned to my home state so the practice requirements and laws were quite different. I used this book to prepare for my interviews, transition to my new job and discuss with the person who hired me about my scope of practice etc. Although I was very pleased with my graduate curriculum ( this book was required for my program), this book is great because it condenses all of the info that you learned in graduate school and is an easy read. It provides great references and has all the extra " need to know" info.. SO BUY it! you will be pleased

NP practice and legal guide

must have
I use this book over and over. It was extreemly helpful for drafting a collaborating agreement as well

User-friendly!
This book is filled with practical, business-oriented information that nurse practitioners need. It is very easy to read and has state-by-state information listed at the end of chapters where it is revelant.

NP student input
The text book is very easy to read, and provides good information. It is a book that will be useful in the future. It includes information on each of the different state's rules and regulations for practicing as a practitioner.

Bizarre
This book is written by an American, (who has lived in England for 20 years), about the British and Americans. Guess who comes off best?

Whilst it's meant to be funny it's ultimately a bit like Google Translate sometimes - it has basic accuracy but the final translation is weirdly useless. It is a litany of stereotypes. We English are backward-thinking...and have bad teeth. I don't recognize this author's picture of daily life in England, where I see innovation and edginess, warmth and resourcefulness as much as the conservatism and other values she lists. The book is very funny, but would be better titled, "Funny book of American stereotypes about Americans and the British".

In my experience, Americans at home in the USA see British in stereotypes, as much as we Brits may do with Americans. How my dentist in the USA, (mentioned in magazines as a leader in his field), loved to laughingly, repeatedly marvel that I didn't have bad English teeth! How my class mates and professor laughed together at my baffled assertions that my teeth were just fine when the subject was randomly brought up in the middle of class! So, I think this book may be very valuable, but as an accurate guide to how Americans think about themselves and Brits. Brits may not believe it otherwise.

Perhaps a more useful book might be about how Americans are seen by other people rather than how they see themselves. I don't think it would have a wide American readership.

I think Brits are already capable of self-examination, (while they're not thinking cosily about the Royal Family and the Civil Service, and stopping for tea, of course).

Brit Think Ameri Think
GREAT book--I have bought copies for friends. It is a MUST for anyone visiting Britain. And for all my British friends too. Laughed literally until I cried and had to stop.

A very, very funny book! Had me laughing out loud!
There are so many different aspects of cultural differences between America and the UK that one does not know where to start, however if you want to read one of the funniest collections of them, read this book. It really is a laugh out loud roll on the floor kind of book.

So many stories that you must read it, it put me in the mind of PG Wodehouse, and his great wit, and satire.

I just read a couple of his and it put me in the mood for Brit-Think!

The Man With Two Left Feet And Other Stories: A British Humor Classic

The Man Upstairs: A British Humor Classic

The Little Nugget: A British Humor Classic

Enjoy any of these for a great laugh!

Very Charming look into Comparitive cultures
So, I knew from other reviews that this was not going to be "Everything You Wish You Knew About Americans and the English, But Were Afraid to Ask" kind of book. Nor was it going to be a guide on how to help me live and work in Britain, as is my current goal. But, what is was was a very informative look on how people are perceived by Each other, and that in and of itself was valuable. Though I have a few good English friends in the states, and one of my very best friends is English, there is still a gulf between us on how we see the world. This book really illuminates how Americans see things, as opposed to how the English see things. I would have never have been aware of the fascination Americans have with cheating death, if I didn't read on how The English just accept it as a part of being human (as it should be). This book also made me realize that I am not so "American" in thought as I am in English thought, which is good news for me since I won't have to work so hard to bridge the gap between our cultures once I arrive in the UK.

Overall, I think that if you want to know about how these two cultures clash and mingle, this is a very humorous and enlightening book that does the job. I am supplementing this book with practical materials for me on living and working in Britain. But I do need this book, and will probably comb through it time and again.

An Anglo-American Field Guide.
Brit-Think, Ameri-Think: A Transatlantic Survival Guide, Revised Edition Here is a book to help you understand those who live across the pond (both ways). This book should help you understand the pysche of Brits and Yanks. It possesses a light style of writing, with cute cartoons that support the text that discusses cultural differences between the two societies. It was a very enjoyable read and informative, as well. CAUTION, two versions exist. The original that contains many references to Ronald Reagan/ Maragret Thatcher and life in the the 1980s, in general. The second version was re-written and updated for the 21st century. Make sure you are getting the book you want. Other than that, I fully recommend it all anglophiles and yankophiles out there.
